Carolyne Scenna is a multidisciplinary artist from Tiöhtià’ke/Mooniyang/Montreal. Her deeply processual, hybrid work understands the exhibition not as an end in itself, but rather as one of the modalities by which matter can collect impressions and unfold. She is interested in matters such as impermanence, the speculative perception of built environments, the lack of attention and our relation to the image. She casts a close eye on the fragile structures of the spaces she occupies, and on the meaning given to the objects and materials that inhabit the works – whether philosophical, political or aesthetic in nature. The resulting work predominantly involves sculpture, experimental animation techniques, sound and print, taking shape in imposing and always absolutely physical installations, where her reflections are transposed into metaphor and matter. Since 2015, her work has been shown in solo and group exhibitions in renowned art centers and institutions in Quebec, Canada and the United States, besides numerous residencies. She holds a master’s degree in visual and media arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (2017).
